American Cancer Society sets volunteer summit in Thomson The local officeof the American Cancer Society will hold its 3rd Annual Volunteer Summit on September 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Washington Heights Baptist Church in Thomson. "The American Cancer Society's mission is based on partnering with community volunteers to provide the resources and services necessary to reduce the cancer burden in each community," said Gwen Bryant, American Cancer Society State Mission Delivery Director in the South Atlantic Division. "The Volunteer Summit was designed to not only provide training and information to community volunteers but also to recognize and thank them for their dedication and service." The American Cancer Society Volunteer Summit is an annual event that serves as an avenue to educate individuals on how the Society supports local communities through preventative, early detection and educational programs. This event also affords the opportunity to recognize the dedicated volunteers who work with the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
