Rotary Club gets pressroom demonstration
When Rotarian Roger Walker (left) requested a tour of The News-Reporter and said "we just want to see the machines," editor Sparky Newsome took him at his word and provided a down-and-dirty demonstration of how each week's edition of the newspaper comes into being after the news is gathered and the stories are written. He showed the members how the computer-generated pages are converted to negatives and plates and then how those printing plates are used on the press to print the paper. He concluded with an actual short run of the press so that the members could see it in operation.
