School partners with Work Ready; chorus classes get keyboard grant
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

This school year, W-WMS has partnered with Donna Hardy and the Work Ready Program to help our school's achievement and graduation rate, which is currently 87.4 percent. The Work Ready Program hopes to increase the graduation rate by two percent. Earning Certified Work Ready Community status will ensure that our citizens have the skills they need to perform existing jobs and new skills with technology to perform future businesses in Washington. This program will hopefully expand Washington's economy and attract new businesses.

A grant of $5,200 was awarded to Patricia Rusher for her chorus classes at both the elementary and middle schools. Rusher, chorus teacher at the middle and elementary schools, will use the money for keyboards. The grant was received from Airborne Teacher Trust Fund.

The Middle School Jamboree was held August 24. W-WMS played against Lousiville and Thomson. Against Lousiville, the team went out and played good defense and kept the other team scoreless. The W-WMS offense went out and moved the down the field for one touchdown against Lousiville. Against Thomson, W-WMS played very hard defense, but Thomson still managed to score a touchdown. W-WMS went scoreless against Thomson. Our first regular season game took place Wednesday, September 5, against Wilkinson County Middle School but results were not final a press time for this edition.
