Descendants of Albert Willis attended the Willis family reunion at Elijah Clark Park on Saturday, August 25. Some of those family members attending were Porter B. Jones, Oree D. Willis, Cora Andrews, Vernilla Clark and her daughter, Melisa Clark of Augusta. All of Vernilla Clark's siblings were together for this reunion and I believe she said there were nine of them. Other than the state of Georgia some family members came from Florida, California, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. Homecoming at Pole Branch Baptist Church was held Sunday, August 26, with many of the Willis family members attending. Andrea Smith was the chairman and assisted by Sylvia Jones for getting together this homecoming. Giving the sermon at homecoming was their pastor, Rev. Joe Glaze of Elberton. Revival services started after homecoming for last week with visiting Pastor Rev. Richard David of Alabaster, Alabama, giving the revival messages. The Long family reunion was held Sunday at St. Paul's Methodist Church Recreation Area at Amity in Lincoln County. Those from Tignall attending were Gertrude Long, Kenny Long, Niki Fain, Ethan and Chloe, Allen and Stacy Long, Cody, Chanse, Destiny and Ryan. There were about 100 family members attending. Spending the weekend with Alex and Kay Tyler was their grandson, Caleb Tyler of Hoschton. They all spent Saturday in Dacusville, S.C., at the "Old Farm Day." They enjoyed the parade of old tractors and a goat wearing a straw hat caught Caleb's eye. Caleb bought a frog caller, so when they got home he was out calling frogs. If you are missing a few frogs, they are at the Tyler Farm. Graydon and Pat Bobo spent Labor Day weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains where they were joined by Mike and Miriam Bobo of McDonough. They stayed at the Nevaeh cabins of Blue Ridge where locals call this area "God's Country." Well, why not, with the word Nevaeh being heaven spelled backwards. Saturday the two couples enjoyed riding the Blue Ridge scenic railroad. Spending the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener was their son, Vince Keener of Snellville. Of course he had to attend the Georgia game on Saturday night before getting to their home. That was an exciting game and what made it so exciting was that the Georgia Bulldogs won. Visiting for the weekend with Shirley Bufford were her brother, Tommy Echols, and his grandson, Timothy Goddard, of Cleveland, Tennessee. Frances Johnson of North Augusta visited her mom, Sara Frances Henderson, for the weekend. Christine Burton went with Rick and Laura Standard of Hull to Atlanta for two days with Rick and Laura's daughter and her family, Dawn and Steven Seabolt and Sam. They celebrated Dawn's birthday while there. Christine went on to Rome and spent a week with Pat Landers. While there they went to some shows in a little town in Alabama with one celebrating the anniversary of Elvis Presley with lots of Elvis look alikes. I forgot to ask Christine if she dressed up like Elvis. We're sorry to hear that Margie Wilson has been in the Elbert County Hospital. Let's pray that she will be better and will be home soon. Tignall Baptist people, don't forget the "Sunday School New Year Brunch" in the Family Life Center at 9 a.m. Sunday, September 9. On that same day from 5 until 7:30 p.m. there will be a "Back to School Bash" for all youth seventh grade and up at Danny and Tammy Price's pool. The Adult II Sunday School Class of the Tignall Baptist Church placed beautiful flowers in the church in memory of Elizabeth H. Lamar Archer who dedicated a lifetime in the education of young people. Elizabeth was the sister of Ernest and Faye Lamar and the daughter of Mrs. Edna Lamar. The Senior Adults of Tignall Baptist Church are invited to "Return to School" at the Tignall School Lunchroom for a salad lunch on Monday, September 10, at 11 a.m. There will be games, prizes, and fellowship for all. For more information contact Pat Bobo or Carolyn Gammon. Mallorysville Baptist Church will be having homecoming on the fourth Sunday this month with revival following Sunday through Wednesday. Bringing the message for Sunday night revival will be Rev. James Bland and Monday through Wednesday will be Rev. Wade Bridges of Elbert County.
Did you hear that the game of tag is being banned at recess for many schools? One parent said it was traumatizing for a child to be chased and touched by someone. Snipe hunting was traumatizing when I was a kid, but am I glad they didn't take away all the fun and excitement from us; in fact, I don't remember the word "ban" being in our vocabulary. Are we raising a bunch of wimps??
