Dionne Lachelle Forbes weds Norman Cornelius Mills Jr.
The bride is the daughter of Alvin Northington of Buffalo, N.Y., and the late Barbara A. Forbes. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cornelius Mills of Washington. The altar was decorated with roses and tulle skirting and a background of ferns on white pedestals. Two candelabra were enhanced with red and white roses and greenery. The unity candle was placed to the left. Red roses and tulle skirting adorned the pews. Candles were lighted by Vernon Forbes of Fayetteville, N.C., uncle of the bride, and Donnell Forbes of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., cousin of the bride. A program of pre-recorded music was presented by Merry Norman of Washington. Vocalists, Mrs. Melvene Binns and Tawana Binns of Washington, sang "The Lord's Prayer." Jo'Vares Harden of Washington, nephew of the bridegroom, was the bell ringer. Joseph Harden Jr. of Washington, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, served as best man. Vernon Forbes was the usher and Donnell Forbes served as usher-groomsman. Groomsmen were Mario Felder and Vernell Felder, both of Charlotte, N. C., and cousins of the bride, and Quantavius Powell of Fayetteville, N. C., son of the bride. Junior groomsmen were Carlos Adams Jr., Ryan Cosby Jr., and Tony Thomas Jr., all of Washington. Windy Mills Harden of Washington, sister of the bridegroom, served as matron of honor and Aletha Gurley of Fayetteville, N. C., was maid of honor. They wore silver gowns with bodices adorned with beading and sequins and carried arm bouquets of calla lilies and red and silver roses enhanced with gypsophila. Bridesmaids were Paula Brantley of Douglasville, cousin of the bride, Latasha Kendricks, daughter of the bridegroom, Wenchasmine Harden, niece of the bridegroom, Sheleanda Wylie, sister of the bridegroom, all of Washington, and Francina Reid of Fayetteville, N.C. Their red strapless gowns also featured bodices adorned with beading and sequins. Completing their ensembles were silver necklaces and earrings, gifts from the bride. Serving as junior bridesmaids were Shaniqua Fields of Fayetteville, N.C., daughter of the bride, Chiquita Harden of Washington, niece of the bridegroom, and Peighton Forbes of Columbia, S. C., cousin of the bride. Their gowns were in the same red as the bridesmaids but featured different designs. The bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids carried arm bouquets of red roses and white calla lilies. The flower girl, Ke'yanna Kendricks of Washington, granddaughter of the bridegroom, wore a white dress with pearls and beading on the bodice and a white headband and veil. She carried a basket decorated in red and white beading and filled with red petals. Ke'Anthony Kendricks of Washington, grandson of the bridegroom, was ringbearer. He wore a black tuxedo with a red rosebud boutonniere and carried the traditional pillow topped with symbolic rings. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was elegant in her white satin gown designed with a halter bodice accented with sequins and pearls. Pearl and sequin designs also adorned her cathedral-length veil. She carried a cascading bouquet of red roses and gypsophila with pearls stemming throughout. The bride chose for her mother a mid-calf-length red dress. The bridegroom's mother wore a long white two-piece ensemble. Both wore corsages in red and silver. Reception Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. Mills entertained at a reception at the Lions Club in Washington following the ceremony. Mrs. Lynn Thomas and Shirdrina Binns of Washington tended the guest book. Guests were welcomed into the clubhouse and enjoyed a buffet of party foods that included sandwiches, meatballs, party wings, smokies, fruit trays, deviled eggs and beverages. The bride's four-tiered cake was iced in white and decorated with red flowers. The bridegroom's red and white sheet cake, a gift from his parents, was topped with "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. Mills." Serving the cakes were Windy Harden and Merry Norman. Welcoming guests and assisting in serving were Greta Cosby, Tanya Binns, Melissa Kendricks and Missy Jackson, all of Washington. Merry Norman was mistress of ceremonies for the reception festivities. Mr. and Mrs. Mills have plans for a belated honeymoon trip to Hilton Head Island. They are making their home in Fayetteville, N.C. Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. Mills were hosts at a rehearsal dinner honoring Dionne Forbes and Norman Mills Jr. at Springfield Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The wedding party was treated to a dinner of baked spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, peach cobbler, tea and lemonade.
