Wheatley family meets at Rehoboth Baptist August 26

Descendants of the late Charlie and Idalia Wheatley met in the Family Life Center of Rehoboth Baptist Church on Sunday, August 26.

Stanley Wheatley and other Leonard Wheatley family members prepared the famous Wheatley barbecue with all the trimmings. A bountiful table of desserts was furnished by families.

All 12 of the children of Charlie and Idalia Wheatley are deceased but approximately 150 of their descendants were in attendance. The oldest member in attendance was Talitha Wheatley Hopkins who was celebrating her 88th birthday on that day. The youngest member present was Madison Claire Wheatley, twomonth old daughter of Greg and Crystal Wheatley.

Descendants traveled from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and all areas of Georgia to attend. Jessie Lou Wills, her granddaughter and husband traveled the longest distance from Chesapeake, Va.

Special guests included Pastor Steve Rayner, his wife, Celia, their sons and visiting guests, his parents and uncle and aunt.

Plans were made for another reunion next year on the fourth Sunday in August.

Another surprise for Mrs. Hopkins on her birthday was a fellowship after the worship service at Rehoboth Church Sunday evening. When she walked into the fellowship hall, all joined in singing "Happy Birthday." Homemade ice cream, cake and goodies were enjoyed.
