Washington-Wilkes groups start 'Burn the Devil' fundraiser here

Over the next two weeks, the Washington-Wilkes chapters of FCCLA (Family, Community, and Career Leaders of America), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) will cosponsor a county-wide fundraiser.

The fundraiser, entitled "Burn the Devil Out of Wilkes County," will raise money for the American Cancer Society and Tiger Pride for the upcoming football game against Lincoln County. The fundraiser started Tuesday, September 4, with the placing of a "devil" at Washington Wilkes Elementary School.

The elementary school students gave donations to have the "devil" moved from the school. Thursday, the "devil" moves on to the primary school. Next Monday the "devil" will travel to the middle school, and then Wednesday it will end its journey at the high school.

If enough money is raised over the two weeks, the "devil" will be burned during the school day of Friday, September 14, the day of the Lincoln County football game.

If you would like to make a donation to the American Cancer Society and the burning of the "devil" please contact Mrs. Harkins, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Harrison, or Mrs. Callaway, all at the high school. Thank you for your contributions. Go Tigers, beat LC!!!!
