Building in Wilkes
Kerry McAvoy (left) and Kerry Jr. watch a roof girder being lifted into place, part of a new metal building being constructed for their business, Wood Specialty Company. The new buiding is being constructed over the existing main production building, giving production lines more headroom. "I built this building myself, by hand, over six months in 1971," McAvoy said. "We'll tear out the old building when we're done." The company, which has grown to employ 87 workers in two shifts, produces precision-cut floor web, specialized pallets, and other wood products.
