School's 4-H Club elects officers; sports teams seasons underway
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

This month, two students have been chosen from each grade for having a positive attitude, a strong desire to learn, excellent behavior and a willingness to help others. From the sixth grade, Christian Keiser and Dominique Welborn have been chosen. From the seventh grade, Lauren Chafin and Julius Grant have been chosen. From the eighth grade, Jordan Echols and Jose Olalde have been chosen.

Middle school 4-H students had their first meeting Tuesday, September 4. During this meeting, they elected officers. The 4-H program splits the students in each grade into two smaller groups and each group has different officers. The eighth grade officersare Jordan Echols and Kahlil Zahran as presidents, Laura Heard and Jessica Wright as vice presidents, Kotey McCall and Jonathan Winkle as secretaries, and Adam Hackney and Erika Scott as reporters. The seventh grade officersare: Breanna Ingram and Shaina Spence as presidents, Paige Mcavoy and Kquneishia Norman as vice presidents, Undrelle Grant and Sara Wilson as secretaries, and Chiquita Harden and Gloria Perales as reporters. The sixth grade officersare: Wishah Aamir and Leslie Souther as presidents, Cecilia Eligio and Marisa Sifre as vice presidents, Payton Burriss and Katie Trimm as secretaries, and Logan Griffin and Camille Lewis as reporters.

WWMS eighth graders Josh McLeroy and Sanquela Gresham are participating on the Washington Wilkes Tiger Cross Country team.
This year's Washington- Wilkes Cross Country team is off to a great start. They have a new coach, Benita Sanders, who is a teacher at the high school. Two eighth grade students from W-WMS are participating on the team this year: Josh McLeroy and Sanquela Gresham. At the meet Saturday, August 24, Josh placed 14 from over 100 runners. At the meet Wednesday, August 5, Sanquela placed fifth. Sanquela says, "It feels great when you finish a race." The Cross Country team practices right after school until 5 p.m. The practice track is approximately 3.1 miles long.

This week, W-WMS played a hard football game against Wilkinson County Middle School. Nevertheless, Wilkinson came out on top with a 14-point lead. The final score was 20-6, Wilkinson Middle. Our next game will be against Hancock County on September 12. Hope to see you there. Go Tigers!!!

The W-WMS softball team's first game is Saturday, September 15, at 11:00 a.m. It will be an away game in Wilkinson County. Players will be leaving around 8 a.m. to travel to the game.
