HOSA-sponsored blood drive draws praise from Shepeard

The Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club sponsored a blood drive at the school Thursday August 30. The Shepeard Community Blood Center from Augusta came and conducted the drive in the Health Occupations room at the high school where a total of 55 units were donated.

Each donor received a free t-shirt and snacks. Students learned that each unit donated has the potential to save three lives, so for the day, as many as 165 lives might be saved. Shepeard provides blood components to all local hospitals in Richmond, Columbia, and Aiken counties and eight other surrounding counties in Georgia and South Carolina including Wilkes County.

Ann Harrison, advisor of HOSA, received the following message from Shepeard Monday:

"WOW!!!!! What a GREAT DRIVE... You all blew it out the roof. Thank you so very much for all you do. It just so happens that this week the blood needs have skyrocketed!!!!!! We almost had to go on critical appeal.

Thanks to your blood drive. It kept us from going on critical appeal. Blessings to all of you that either donated or helped with this blood drive. You are all LIFE SAVERS!"
