Cooler weather is on the way. I am so glad. I dislike hot weather, triple digit weather anyway. How time flies. It will soon be 2008; less than four months away.

Aunt Jenelle Newsome and I had a nice trip to Vero Beach, Fla., Labor Day weekend. Her son, Rev. Jim Newsome, has retired from the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach and is in the process of moving to Rayle where he has accepted the pastorate at Sardis Baptist Church. Last Thursday, he, along with his wife Karan, her mother, Mrs. Betty Huddleston, and their daughter, Mrs. Dennis D'Avila, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and a friend, Bert, arrived in Wilkes County. It will take a while, but they will soon be "home." Welcome back to the country.

We had a good day at Ebenezer Baptist Church Sunday. In the absence of Dr. Dupree, Dr. Bob Nash of Athens was our guest speaker. Flowers were placed in the church by Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Hall. I would like to announce that Melanie Hart will be in concert on Wednesday, September 19, at 7 p.m., at Ebenezer Baptist Church. I would also like to invite you all to homecoming on Sunday, September 30. Please tell your friends and family about this and let's all work together to have a wonderful day.

Happy birthday to all who are celebrating birthdays. The ones I am aware of are Curtis Hall, Jackie Dupree, Frank Bentley, Bryson Taylor, Frank Bentley, Bob Marett, Mrs. Pete Strother, Lathan oberson, G.T. Hall, Sandy Crosby, Linda Collier, Joe Harris, Sara Nell Myers, Chaz Wallace, James Casey, Tyler Davenport, Matthew Ryll, and Trudy Sutherland.

Little Bryson Taylor celebrated his first birthday Saturday at his home. Guests were his immediate family plus Russell Goldman of Doraville; Randy Goldman, Connie Johnson, and Misty Johnson, all of Lincoln County; Daryl and Elaine Johnson of Athens; Deann Johnson of Hull; Mickey Taylor, Terrell and Ridge Moore of Rayle; Mrs. Helen Miller of Washington; Sherry, Carlton and Brittany of Hull. On Sunday, Bryson, Cassie, and Mitch celebrated again at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Fields in Lexington.

I visited my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace, several times last week in Lincoln County.

Miss Grace Dunaway and Alex Dunaway had supper with Beverly Teasley in Lincoln County last Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Dennis D'Avila of Ft. Worth, Texas, has been visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Jenelle Newsome. She was helping in the moving of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome, from Florida to Georgia.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Keen of Gainesville, Fla., spent Labor Day weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Gay.

We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Dot Shank has been a patient in Wills Memorial Hospital, but is home now and feeling better. Her sons, Joe Shank of Lexington, S.C., and Kenneth Shank of Atlanta, have been visiting. Mrs. Joe Shank joined them later in the week.

Sherry Newsome joined Shane Gaines and Linda Gaines for a trip to Atlanta recently.

Mrs. Pat Tuttle visited Mr. and Mrs. Hill O'Neal at Tyrone Sunday. Rhonda Newsome and Jake also visited.

Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Davenport and Tyler spent the weekend with Mrs. Lucille Ingram and Trudy. They came to celebrate Tyler's second birthday and Matthew Ryll's birthday. On Saturday they were joined by Judy and David Burke, Lona and Roy Chesnut, Elizabeth Dunnaway, and Betty Crawford of Appling. Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ryll, Conner and Calley, also visited Mrs. Ingram and family again. They enjoyed swimming.

Dr. Leonard Dupree and his son enjoyed a men's Bible conference in Glorietta, New Mexico, the past week. à192We were sorry to hear of the death of Ben Smith, Kariana Smith, Mitchell Crook, Susie Andrews, and Aubrey Tyler. We extend our love and sympathy to their families, and to all families who recently lost loved ones.

Our prayer concerns include Mrs. Alma O'Neal, Mrs. Hill O'Neal, Jane Hudson, Ann Gunter, Nancy Young, Tommy Dunnaway, Grace Dunaway, Gary Rogers, Lawrence Burton, Barry Bailey, Ethel Harris, Dot Shank, Lucy McCorkle, Lois South, Helen Ross, Dot Harris, Mona Hall, Mike Webb, Bill Mobley, Joe Charping, Gene Lamar, Marvin and Blanche Armour, Priscilla and Morrison Maxwell, Bill Bennett, Ronnie Callaway, Mildred Sisson, Sanders Dallis, Olive and Genelle Gill, Ruth Bell, Joyce Bowen, Wylie Dallas, Roberta Roper, Rev. Someone stole our riding lawnmower and our grandson's four-wheeler. I am mad as I can be about this. If you know the whereabouts of these two things there is a reward for their return. LOST: a set of car keys on a gold round key chain. Reward for their return. Call 706-678-2898.
