Candice DeAnne Saggus and Jay Ross Holmes exchange wedding vows Saturday, August 11
The bride is the daughter of Joey Saggus of Washington and Kim Vincent of Anderson, S.C. The bridegroom is the son of Ralph and Shera Holmes of Iva, S.C. A floral and ivy garland with a silver initial "H" decorated the church entry. Inside, the altar archway held floral garlands and greenery that also adorned the unity candelabrum. Pews were marked with white satin and tulle entwined with varied-colored Alstroemeria lilies. Before entering the church, guests registered in the bride's book kept by Pamela Christenbury of Iva, S.C., aunt of the bridegroom, at a table overlaid in white linen. Kelsey Christenbury of Anderson, S.C., cousin of the bridegroom, greeted guests and handed out programs. Carleen Bryan of Elberton, pianist, presented the prelude. "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven was played as the parents and grandparents were seating. The wedding party processed to "Canon in D" by Pachelbel and the bride entered to Wagner's "The Bridal Chorus." The unity candle was lighted to "Lost in This Moment" by Big and Rich. "The Wedding March" by Mendelssohn was the recessional. Mr. Holmes was his son's best man. Groomsmen were the bridegroom's brothers, Chris Holmes of Anderson, S.C., and Blake Holmes of Starr, S.C. They wore traditional black tuxedos with silver vests and ties. The bridegroom, best man and groomsmen had boutonnieres of miniature Alstroemeria lilies and greenery. Leslee Vincent of Iva, S.C., was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Krystle Kvalheim of Washington, cousin of the bride, and Amanda Holmes of Starr, S.C., sister-in-law of the bridegroom. Their matching cranberry floorlength A-line gowns by Eden Maids featured strapless bodices and were complemented by bouquets of white Alstroemeria lilies tied with white satin ribbon. Mackenzie Vincent of Iva, S.C., niece of the bride, was the flower girl. She wore an Alfred Angelo white satin and tulle tea-length dress accented with cranberry rose petals and carried a white wicker basket with white rose petals. Jayden Vincent of Iva, S.C., nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer. His tuxedo and boutonniere matched those of the groomsmen. He carried a cranberry-colored sachet bag holding the ring box. The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, was stunning in her Alfred Angelo white satin, strapless A-line gown embellished with beaded pearls and crystals on the bodice. Her fingertip veil and tiara were also beaded with matching pearls and crystals. She carried a clutch bouquet of white and cranberry-colored Alstroemeria lilies wrapped in white satin. Her jewelry included diamond and pearl earrings borrowed from her sister, Leslee Vincent. She also wore a pearl necklace and bracelet set given to her by her grandmother, Francess Saggus, on her graduation day. Her Georgia Bulldog garter was given to her by her bridegroom. She also had a white handkerchief with blue hearts given to her by her mother. Mrs. Vincent chose for her daughter's wedding a sleeveless, silvercolored satin dress and matching bolero accented by a rhinestone brooch and matching earrings. Mrs. Holmes, the bridegroom's mother, chose a black, short-sleeved tea-length dress of organza and satin. Frances Saggus of Washington, paternal grandmother of the bride, wore an eggplant tea-length dress and matching jacket. Her maternal grandmother, Shari Bryson, also of Washington, chose a blue silk tealength dress. Jeanette Christenbury of Anderson, S.C., grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a black floral pattern tea-length dress. All the mothers and grandmothers wore corsages of white Alstroemeria lilies, gypsophila and greenery tied with tulle and satin ribbon. Reception Joey Saggus and Kim Vincent entertained at a reception in the fellowship hall of Good Hope Baptist Church following the ceremony. The doors to the hall held tulle bows and greenery. As guests entered, they were invited to sign an informal picture of the couple placed on a table adorned in white linen and cranberry satin. Emily Slice of Starr, S.C., tended this area and presented guests with favors. Near the table was the bride's formal portrait. The buffet table was covered in white linen and featured topiary trees at both ends. Greenery and candles were interspersed among the beautiful silver and crystal appointments that held delicious party foods. All the tables for guests were covered in white linen and cranberry satin and centered with hurricane globes with white pillar candles surrounded with greenery. The bride's cake featured three cascading sections each on a separate silver and crystal cake pedestal borrowed from her grandmother, Mrs. Bryson. The yellow cake with white fondant icing was decorated with varied colors of Alstroemeria lilies and ivy. Kelsey Christenbury served the cake using a silver and crystal cake knife, a gift to the couple by the bride's sister and brother-in-law, Leslee and Jason Vincent. Jody Slice of Starr, S.C., served punch and sweet tea from silver punch bowls. The couple left the reception in their wedding attire and have plans for a wedding trip later in the fall. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes are making their home in Anderson, S.C. Rehearsal Dinner Ralph and Shera Holmes were hosts at a rehearsal dinner in the Good Hope Baptist Church Family Life Center on Friday evening in honor of Candice Saggus and Jay Holmes. The bride-elect chose a black halter-style sundress complemented by a daisy corsage. Tables were covered in white linen with small vases of white and yellow daisies. Guests enjoyed a dinner of lasagna, salad, bread, sweet tea and punch. The prospective bridegroom's cake featuring a hunting theme was served for dessert.
The prospective bride and bridegroom presented their bridal party and grandparents with special gifts and their parents, sentimental framed pictures.
