Wrong-way driver injures one
As first responders treat an injured 55-year-old Athens woman in the EMS unit, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Brent Marxsen is investigating an accident that occurred Monday afternoon on the Thomson Road near Highway 80. The accident occured, according to witnesses, when a delivery van coming from Thomson apparently crossed into the southbound lanes and sideswiped this Ford Explorer, causing it to flip. The van, belonging to a Thomson rental business, was heavily damaged, but neither the driver or two passengers were injured. The woman, a passenger in the Explorer, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia for treatment. Charges are pending against the driver of the van.
