Rev. Skip Padgett brought a very inspiring sermon to the congregation of Sardis Baptist Church Sunday morning. Pam Hall led in the singing of old hymns with Rebekah Echols at the piano. Joyce Fry held children's church in the annex and Tina Boatwright and Cody Boatwright were in charge of the nursery. Prayer meeting is held every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Echols Home. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. every Sunday morning. You are cordially invited to attend these services. Rev. Jim Newsome is pastor of the church.

The Philomath Church Preservation Association will be having a chicken and pork barbecue on Saturday, September 29, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Buckman Barn in Philomath. Tickets are $7 each and the money will be used to restore the Presbyterian Church. You can purchase tickets by calling Sonny and Linda Bryan at 706-2274-3582, Lawrence and Annette Nash, or Johnny and Sue Ellen Buckman.

Kaitlyn Porter was honored with a Cinderella birthday party at the home of her grandparents, Lamar and Kay Berry, Saturday. The party was given by her mother, Brooke Berry, and father, Demetrice Porter. A bunch of Kaitlyn's friends and relatives came to help her celebrate. Kaitlyn was four years old Sunday.

Many attended the beautiful wedding of Samantha Armour and Will Callaway performed by Rev. John Mark Carpenter Saturday at the Sardis Baptist Church and the reception afterwards at the home of Greg and Angela Armour.

Avery Hall and Jackson Armour, members of the Falcons football team with the Parks and Recreation Department, played in a game against Oglethorpe County Saturday morning in which they won. Going to watch this exciting game in Crawford were Boyce and Pam Hall, Martha Hall, Lindley Hall, Clyde and Sandy Whittington, Tracy and Denise Armour, Justin Armour, and Neil and Kim Frankel, Zachery, Kyle and Bryce.

Jeffrey Roth and Alyssa Stewart visited Johnny and Kathryn Shedd Saturday. Gail Stewart and Ava Wright visited Johnny and Kathryn Sunday afternoon.

Sheila Chafin Arnold, Wendy Chafin,Evan Harper, and Ronnie Chafin were honored at a dinner at the home of Troy and Shirley Chafin for their September birthdays. A house full of family members came to help them celebrate with much laughter, eating, and fun.

Trey Berry spent the weekend at home from UGA with his parents, Lamar and Kay Berry.

William Hester of Covington spent Saturday and Sunday with George and Ann Wideman. James, David and Mathew Wideman spent the weekend. A birthday dinner of turkey and dressing and all the trimmings and a devil's food cake and pineapple cake honored Ann Wideman whose birthday was Friday, and William Hester whose birthday was Sunday.

Our prayers are for John Armour who was badly injured in a car wreck Saturday night.

Peggy Echols enjoyed Sunday dinner with her sister, Sybil Hayes, in Stephens along with other family members. Sybil, Peggy, Tim Hayes, and Harley Grace, and Vickie Stevens visited Melvie Esco at Quiet Oaks in Crawford in the afternoon.

Visiting George and Ann Wideman over the week were Leeman Stewart, Gene Winfrey, and Buster Winfrey.

George and Mozelle Casey and Frances Fendley visited their sister, Virginia Fong, in Augusta.

Ann Wideman visited Emilie Rorie at the Echols Home and Gene and Betty Winfrey, and Sandy Winfrey during the week.

Fred Weidner of the Armour Home in Lexington spent Sunday through Friday with Clyde and Sandy Whittington.

We were sorry to learn that Tangie Chafin lost all of her belongings in a firethat destroyed the family home in which she lived. She was also cut pretty badly and is still suffering from smoke inhalation trying to put out the fire. Our prayers are for her a quick and complete recovery. She has had many concerned visitors stopping by to check on her at the home of Troy and Shirley Chafin.Many antiques and personal items were lost that belonged to other members of the family.

Charlie Arnold of Athens visited Troy and Shirley Chafin and other family members one day during the week.

Spending the day Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols were Scott and Sissy Smith and J.T., Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Taylor Echols, Richard and Lou Heard, and Mattie and Hank.

Bonnie Boatwright visited J.W. and Kathleen Canup in Lexington Monday afternoon. I was glad to see Margaret Peterman also who came for a visit. Bonnie enjoyed joining them for the revival meeting at Pentecost Chapel Monday evening.

Whitney Sherrer and her friend Reese and Lindsay Sherrer and her friend Jones visited Billy and Doris Walker Sunday afternoon.

George and Mozelle Casey and Frances Fendley went over to Greenville, S.C., where they visited their nieces and nephews, Billy Chafin who is in a nursing home, and Jerry and Lucy Chafin and Mamie Sue McClain.

Bonnie Boatwright went over to Bogart Wednesday and spent the day with her sister, Martha Jones. They met their other sister, Frankie Jones of Athens, for lunch at the new I-HOP restaurant.

Ruby Arnold, Dorothy Callaway, and Nell Hubbard and her family went over to Flatwoods to the home of their sister, Sallie Mae Arnold, to help celebrate Martha Ann and Arnold Sanders' birthday. Eight out of 10 of Sallie Mae's children were there with their families.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sisson Jr. of Madison, Ala., spent the long Labor Day weekend with their parents, Mildred Sisson in Rayle, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Bunn in Monroe and also enjoyed being with other family members at cookouts and for other meals.

Mildred Sisson was glad to be among those in the area who enjoyed a visit Sunday afternoon from O'Neil Adams and his and Mrs. Adams' guests from Clearwater, Fla., -- his sister, Maude Adams Mortti, and her daughter, Anne Shepherd. Mrs. Gene Winfrey also visited, coming especially to see Maude and Anne who were planning to leave Tuesday to visit her daughter Kathryn in Michigan and to attend her granddaughter's wedding.
