When your children are young, you go to their baseball games, football games, camping, etc. Well, you get to do all that fun stuff again when the grandchildren come along. That's what Layton and Gloria Harris are doing now. They attended a football game at Abbeville High School in Abbeville, S.C., to see granddaughter, Laken Harris, cheer. She is one of the little cheerleaders. ƒ Donald and Peggy Ware and Stacey Ware attended Price Rogers' football game in Evans at Greenbrier School last Tuesday.

Leon and Linda Aycock attended the Northeast Georgia Heifer Show in Louisville Saturday where their grandson, Greg Callaway, showed three of his calves. He came in second place in showmanship and won grand championship with one of his calves. Leon and Linda traveled to Gwinnett County three days last week to see Greg show his calves and his pig, Arnold. Arnold is an unusual pig since he loves baths. His pig helped him win third place there. He has won many prizes for his animals everywhere he goes. Another talent Greg has is his voice. He leads the choir at Mallorysville Baptist Church. Greg and James Wideman sang the special, "God and Me," on Sunday. Greg is the son of Brian and Tonya Callaway.

Carolyn Gammon carried her granddaughters, Kara and Kaci Gammon, to the pageant at the Pope Center on Saturday morning as they were contestants in the pageant. Their mom, Sandra Gammon, was at the Cub Scout campout in Lincoln County with son, Curt, and their dad, Craig Gammon, was at work. When getting the girls out of her vehicle Carolyn noticed that Kaci had purple plastic beads around her neck. They didn't really go with her outfit. She wasn't too happy when Carolyn took them off. Carolyn had to change their clothes three times -- first to have pictures made in their pageant clothes, then in their dance costume for their dance routine, and then back in their pageant clothes before going onto stage for their age category. What a whirlwind! When they got home, Kaci asked, "By the way, Mimi, who won the pageant?" ƒAttending the Cub Scout campout in Lincoln County were John and Katie Mack with son, J.T.

Louise Smith celebrated her 93rd birthday Saturday evening, September 22. Charles and Elizabeth Smith took Louise to Athens to the Cracker Barrel where they were met by Graham and Glenda Smith, Marshall and Beth Smith and Adam, Mike and Kathy Smith, all of Snellville. After the dinner they enjoyed her special birthday cake. Happy birthday, Louise.

Wilbur and Ouida Maney traveled to Columbus, Miss., to visit with Ouida's family. They visited her two brothers and one sister. They all got together at the home of Ronnie and Betsy Bracken. Others meeting there were Jerry and Helen Bracken, and Ann and Joe Gilbreth. Everyone brought food.

Mrs. Ted Hudson of Monticello visited Myrline Thornton last Thursday. They went to Augusta for Myrline's dental appointment, but ended the day with some fun -- shopping.

Gloria Ware attended homecoming at Salem Baptist Church in Milledgeville Sunday. This was her home church.

Sara Grimes of Elberton spent Saturday and Sunday with Mary Ann Williams and Kason Bradley.

Having lunch and spending the day Sunday with Julian and Helen Wilson were Hunter, Ivy, and Wyatt Safrit and Chet and Jared Wilson. We are sorry to hear that Helen has had a fall and broke her arm. We will keep Helen in our prayers that she will mend quickly.

Let's also keep Alma Arrington in our prayers. She is a patient in Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington.

Marjorie Gibson of Dallas spent the weekend with her mom and sister, Lois and Peggy Sale. On Saturday they all attended the wedding of Brian McIntosh and Amy Walters at Northside Baptist Church in Elberton. Brian is a great nephew of Lois Sale. He is the grandson of Evelyn Oglesby, Lois' sister. On Sunday morning, Marjorie attended Independence United Methodist Church with Lois.

Scott, Kathy and Stacey Ware attended a family get-together Saturday night at the home of Kathy's parents, Paul and Gail Vandiver, in Union Point. Joining them were Zack and Jennifer Etheridge, Mikey and Austin. The Etheridge family joined them for church at Wilkes County Baptist Sunday.

There were about 16 members of the Tignall Baptist Church who attended the Senior Adult Rally of the Georgia Baptist Association at the Lincolnton Baptist Church Monday, September 24. Rev. Jerry Wilson entertained with his wife Mary singing one song. Everyone enjoyed his wit and talent. The meal afterward was also enjoyed.

There will be a chicken barbecue benefit for Steve Whitener of Lincolnton. Steve's niece, Judy Whitener, is selling tickets for this benefit and their booth will be at the Tignall Fall Festival on Saturday, November 3. The plate will be barbecued chicken, green beans, potato salad, and tea. Steve was in a terrible wreck and they need help with medical bills. If you would like to purchase a ticket, please call Judy Whitener at 706-359-1521 or at 706-410-5523. If anyone has a tent they could use for this barbecue benefit, please let Judy know. They need our help.

The next meeting of the North Wilkes Steering Committee will be Monday, October 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Tignall Lunchroom. Plans are coming together for the biggest festival yet. It is still not too late to join the group and help out with the festival. Your help is needed. Vendors may get applications from Carolyn Gammon at 706-285-2736 or Gloria Ware at 706-285-2058.
