Pope's Chapel Methodist to hold 51st annual Homecoming Sunday

Historic Pope's Chapel United Methodist Church in the Broad area of Wilkes County will have its 51st annual homecoming on Sunday, October 7, beginning at 11 a.m.

Richard Seibert is pastor of the church and will preside for the service. Dr. Sophia Bamford will serve as pianist and will begin the service with a prelude. Special music titled "Dawning of the Day" will be presented by Ethan and Mason Jones, violinists, in honor of Dr. Bamford and in memory of Mr. and Mrs. John Wright Boyd.

Rev. Jack Bozeman, a retired Methodist minister, will bring the homecoming message and will be introduced by Betty Slaton, president of the Pope's Chapel Homecoming Committee. Rev. Bozeman has served as pastor of numerous churches in the North Georgia Methodist Conference for more than 40 years. He also served the Conference in other ways including District Superintendent in Dalton for fiveyears. He and his wife Jacqueline live in Elberton.

Flowers for the service will be placed on the altar in memory of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Boyd and John Boyod Jr. by Gail Boyd and Girls; and in memory of Pearl and Ethel Bufford by Lois Sale, Evelyn Oglesby and families. Flowers on the piano will be placed in memory of Lucy Anthony Peacock by Betty Slaton and Marion Slaton.

Following the morning service, there will be "dinner on the grounds."

The afternoon session will begin with the singing of "The Church in the Wildwood." Reports from the various homecoming committees will be heard and the election of officersconducted. The session will close with the singing of "God Be With You Til We Meet Again."

Officersof the 2007 Homecoming Committee are Betty Slaton, president; Libby Walton Foster, vice-president; Nancy Norman Faulk, secretary; Malcolm Chafin,treasurer; David Sale and David Chafin,ushers; Tom Wiggins, Elizabeth Chafin,and John Keen, nominations; and Malcolm Chafin,George Smith, John Keen, and Jimmy Norman, tables.
