Mary C. Reid Women on Mission members meet at FBC October 2 The Mary C. Reid Women on Mission of First Baptist Church met in the Conference Room on Tuesday morning, October 2. Mrs. Dennis Hopkins presided and opened by reading the WMU Watchword and leading in prayer. Mrs. Eugene Pollock led in prayer for those with special needs. Following the business meeting, Mrs. James Johnson gave the prayer calendar and offered a prayer for the missionaries. The program, "Taking the Gospel Where It Has Never Been Before," from "Mosaic," was presented in three parts. Mrs. Pollock gave a brief biography of Betsey Stockton, a freed slave who became a teacher and school administrator. Mrs. Hopkins told of Amy Carmichael who served in Japan and later in India until her death. Mrs. Eldon Holes described the mission work of William Carey who took his family to India, translated the Bible into Bengali, and has been called the "Father of Modern Missions." Mrs. Hopkins closed the meeting with prayer.
Members present were Mrs. Mary Ann Bentley, Mrs. Lynwood Cofer, Mrs. Joe Harris, Mrs. Wayne Henderson, Mrs. Eldon Holes, Mrs. Dennis Hopkins, Mrs. James Johnson, Mrs. Gene Pollock and Mrs. Charles Reese.
