W-W Arts Foundation hosting new members at fall ArtFest reception Activities for the Fall ArtFest on Saturday, November 3, will begin with a reception the night before, when members and prospective members are invited to meet the artists. "We're having a membership drive for the Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation," President Lou Ricciuti said, "and we'd like for all prospective members to join us Friday night at The Fitzpatrick Hotel for a reception with the artists." There will be a silent auction of artwork donated by the show's artists, and a drawing for a poster signed by Hillary Lindsey and Carrie Underwood. More than 20 artists in all media have been accepted for the juried competition sponsored by the Washington Wilkes Arts Foundation, Ricciuti said, competing for some $1,750 in cash prizes awarded. The 2007 Art Show on The Square will open Saturday at 10 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. Some 21 artists have confirmed,many of them returning favorites from previous ArtFests. "We have a new local artist, Johnny Mills, a primitive painter, and a new photographer, John Weber, who will show his seashore photography," Riccuiti said. "We have W.A. Robinson, a wood turner from Buckhead, who is bringing his equipment to demonstrate, and fabric artist Jan Swearingen is returning from North Carolina with her fabric arts." New York City artists Laura Loving and Bonnie Bray will return, he said. "They have a big following here, and we look forward to their return." There will also be activities for children this year. Kids will be able to work on art projects of their own at art stations in the Livery Stable under the guidance of Polly Fievet. "From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., we'll have art projects that kids can work on," she said. "We encourage children to come out and explore their artistic side at ArtFest."
