Market Days Street Festival to bring crowds Saturday for food, fun, kids activities Saturday's Market Days Street Festival, which will fillthe Court Street area in Washington with vendors, music, and food, is being featured this week on the big state tourism website, Georgia.org, and that may attract a lot of visitors to the first-year event. "They're getting 80,000 hits a day on Georgia.org," said Bradley Barber, organizer for the festival with his wife Katherine. "Every day we're getting calls from all over the state, so we're pretty excited." Kids activities will be a big part of the day, he said. "We're asking for kids to come and help draw the largest sidewalk mural ever, and kids can paint pumpkins, and build scarecrows, and have a lot of fun." Current vendors include some of the best local and regional merchants and entrepreneurs, Barber said, including: Coyote Moon, D.J's Fine Foods, Arbonne International, Tink's Grass-Fed Beef, The Washington Little Theater, The Funny Farm, Elaine's Handmade Scarves, Nacho Mama Foods, Creative Memories, Jones Handmade Goods, Lizzie Anne Jewelry Designs, The Washington Historical Museum, Re:Paper and many more. Special events are planned throughout the day including cooking demonstrations by Chef Doug Janousek and chef-in-training Anthony Macchia. The Washington Humane Shelter will hold their Adopt-a-Pet program at the Farmers Market all day. There will be live local music by Adam Reddick, Bragg N'Hughes, Mack Gecko, Kirk Edwards, The Friendz Band and others. The event will culminate with an "Off the Square" dance where people can dance in the streets while listening to live music. "It should be great fun for the whole family," said Katherine Barber.
The Market Days 2007 Street Festival, a joint effort of Washington Farmers Market, in collaboration with Washington First, Inc. is sponsored by the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, Barnett Southern Corporation, Old South Marketing & Public Relations, Tena's Jewelry, Fievet Pharmacy, Washington Events Management LLC, and Tink's Grass-Fed Beef.
