Amanda Kathryn Poss weds Wilson Alan Battles Oct. 6
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Alan Poss of Washington. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Wayne Battles of Hawkinsville. The couple exchanged vows on the lawn in front of the clubhouse as they stood beneath an arbor of fall garlands entwined with burnt orange chiffon ribbon. To each side were pillars holding bronze mums. Mrs. Joe Burton of Tignall, pianist, presented a program of wedding music. She played "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" as the bride's grandmother and the mothers were seated. The wedding party entered to "Canon in D" and the bride processed to "Trumpet Voluntary." During the ceremony the bride's cousin, Rebekah Poss of Elberton, sang "The Lord's Prayer." Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" was the recessional. Mr. Battles was his son's best man. Usher-groomsmen were John Battles and Wayne Battles of Hawkinsville, brothers of the bridegroom. Nephew of the bridegroom, Caleb Battles, also of Hawkinsville, served as junior groomsman. Mrs. Len Poss of Washington, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Charann Mathis of Comer and Leah Gennings of Ila. Their chiffon floorlength gowns in truffle were finished with cowl necklines and spaghetti straps. Bouquets of fall flowers complemented their gowns. Ruth Chafin of Washington, niece of the bride, served as flower girl. Her ankle-length gown of ivory bridal satin with an empire waistline was accented with a champagne bow and embroidered designs similar to the bride's gown. She carried an ivory satin basket filled with orange rose petals. The ring bearer, Boyd Chafin of Washington, nephew of the bride, carried an ivory satin pillow. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in her A-line gown of ivory bridal satin fashioned with split front with beaded lace within the split and on the bodice. The gown featured a corseted back and the chapel train was accented with a champagne sash. Her ivory fingertip veil was accented by a comb of pearls and silver and gold rhinestones. She carried white bridal roses tied with champagne satin ribbon. Her Georgia Bulldog garter, given to her by her bridesmaids, was adorned with blue ribbon and a silver disc engraved with a "B". For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Poss wore a two-piece taupe shantung jacket dress complemented with a corsage of mango roses. Mrs. Battles, the bridegroom's mother, chose a two-piece eggplant chiffon dress accented throughout with beading. Her corsage was a white cymbidium orchid. The bride's grandmother, Mrs. Randall Denard of Washington, wore a two-piece jacket dress in eggplant and a white cymbidium orchid corsage. Reception Following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained at a reception at the Washington-Wilkes Country Club. The bride's table was centered with a stacked wedding cake iced in butter cream with milk chocolate filigree. Centering the second layer in chocolate was "ABA." Serving the cake was Mrs. David Bridges of Washington, cousin of the bride. The bridegroom's cake, served by Anne Poss of Elberton, cousin of the bride, was chocolate on chocolate and topped with a Bulldog "G." The buffet featured an elaborate fall design with small stacked hay bales interspersed with potted yellow chrysanthemums wrapped in brown chiffon. Atop this setting was a carved pumpkin filled with a massive display of chrysanthemums, Gerber daisies, snapdragons, Brown-eyed Susan's in fall colors, and orange-tipped cream roses. From the table guests enjoyed barbecue, ribs, Brunswick stew and delicious accompaniments. Guests were seated at tables covered in floor-length gold cloths and topped with hurricane globes with orange candles. Brown ribbon and bows accented the hurricane tops and fall leaves scattered about the table completed the design. The couple left in their wedding attire. They are making their home in Washington. The bride is a registered nurse at Athens Regional Medical Center ER. The bridegroom is a sourcing manager for Westinghouse Nuclear in Columbia, S.C. Rehearsal Dinner Alan Battles was host at a rehearsal dinner at Washington-Wilkes Country Club on the eve of his marriage to Amanda Poss. The bride-elect chose an ivory shirt with black embroidery and black gaucho pants. Tables were covered in red with center silver pots filled with white pillar candles and accented with red gingham bows. The wedding party and out-oftown guests enjoyed a delicious meal of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, corn on the cob, and baked beans. Following dinner, dessert included strawberry trifle,banana pudding, and Key Lime cake.
During the evening, the prospective bride and bridegroom presented gifts to their respective attendants.
