'Drugs Destroy Dreams' is theme of Red Ribbon Week at W-WPS

Wilkes County EMS visited WWPS to teach the students the right way to take medicine.
Red Ribbon Week at Washington- Wilkes Primary School took place October 22-25. The school theme for this year was "Drugs Destroy Dreams."

The activities for the week were focused on the theme, where students are encouraged to think about their dreams for the future and how drugs can get in the way of reaching those dreams. The students participated in a drawing contest where they drew pictures of themselves in their "dream jobs."

Speakers from the sheriff's department and EMS, along with McGruff the Crime Dog, spoke to the children about the dangers of using drugs and the importance of education in reaching their dreams.

The students enjoyed dress-up days, which included a day where they dressed up in their "dream jobs." Finally the week was capped off with a pep rally, where the students danced to Nas's song "I Can," about believing in your dreams. The high school football players, cheerleaders, and band performed at the pep rally, where they encouraged the kids to stay away from drugs, so that they can grow up to be the next generation of athletes and musicians at the high school.

"The students not only learned about the dangers of drugs, but had fun doing it!" said school counselor Tiffany Ingram.
