Blood drive Friday will aid Charping's fight with leukemia Christopher Charping, a senior at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School, has been diagnosed with acute leukemia after becoming quite ill at school on Tuesday, November 6. Christopher is the 18-year-old son of Thomas and Donna Charping of the Metasville community in Wilkes County. He is a patient at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) Hospital in Augusta where he may be a patient for as much as 30 days. Chemotherapy has begun and it is predicted that he will need as much as 120 units of blood and blood components during the course of his treatment. Through the efforts of Ann Harrison, a teacher at W-WCHS, and EMS Director Blake Thompson, a blood drive has been arranged in conjunction with Shepeard Community Blood Center of Augusta. The drive will be held on Friday, November 9, in the gymnasium at W-WCHS from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. All blood donated at that time will be designated for Christopher. This drive is not just for high school students but is a request for everybody in the county who can to give blood at this time.
Christopher participates in several programs at the school and is a member of the Cross Country team.
