Greene County won the coin toss and chose to start the game with the football. Greene took the ball on its own 21-yard line and drove down the field. Several short runs and a 15-yard pass moved GC into Washington territory. After a 10-yard pass down to the W-W 30-yard line, the Greene County running back took the handoff and outran the Washington-Wilkes defense for a touchdown. The PAT was good, giving Greene a 7-0 lead with 8:14 left in the first quarter. Washington's drive started on its 11-yard line. An eight-yard run by Drew Wilson and a 13-yard pass from Teverrius Jones to DeDe Stewart started the drive off well, but it stalled three plays later, with Washington punting down to the GC 39-yard line. Greene County started driving again, moving all the way down to the W-W 26-yard line. Then on third and long, Anthony Smith forced a fumble and Lee Thomson recovered it on Washington's 25-yard line. Three runs by Eric Scott and a run by Wilson gave W-W a first down on its 36-yard line to end the first quarter.
Washington started the second half with the football. Runs by Deon Jackson, as well as a run by Wilson and another pass to Stewart quickly moved W-W down the field. Greene retook the lead in just three plays, going ahead 19-14 with 7:18 left in the third quarter. Washington started its next drive on its 33-yard line. Three carries by Jackson gave W-W a first down on the GC 41-yard line. After short gains by Stewart, Jones, Jackson, and Wilson, Jones completed a 12-yard pass to John Wylie for a first down at the Greene 17-yard line. Three runs by Scott put Washington in the end zone again, giving W-W a slim 20-19 lead with 1:17 left in the third quarter. Greene returned the kickoff to its 45-yard line and ran two plays over to the W-W 43-yard line before the end of the third quarter. Greene County continued its drive into the fourth quarter. Four plays later, Greene again converted on fourth down, this time with a three-yard run. On third and long, Greene County completed a 19-yard pass down to the W-W 13-yard line. The Washington defense tightened up, knocking down three passes and stopping the fourth for a short gain, giving the ball to the W-W offense on its 10-yard line. Runs by Jackson moved Washington out to its 27-yard line before being forced to punt. Greene mounted its last drive of the game from its 44-yard line with just under two minutes to play. A 29-yard pass on first down put Greene on the Washington 31-yard line. A 10-yard completion on third down moved Greene County to the W-W 12-yard line. On first down, a pass that clearly hit the ground was ruled a completion down at Washington's two-yard line. The W-W defense held Greene out of the end zone for two more plays, but on third down, Greene scored on a twoyard run. The two point conversion was good, giving Greene a 27-20 lead with just 10 seconds left in the game. After a 17-yard return on the kickoff, Washington had time to run two plays. After an incompletion on first down, W-W tried a hook-andladder as a last ditch effort. Jones threw a four-yard pass to Stewart, who tossed the ball to Jackson.
