W-WPRD basketball, cheerleading registration underway this month
Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball 2008 Season began Thursday, November 1, and will continue through December 1, 2007. No late signups will be accepted.

Registration is at the W-WPRD Gym, 22 Lexington Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. All games will be played at the gym complex.

There are two age divisions: 6, 7, and 8 years old; and 9-13 years old. A child must be six years old by January 1, 2008, in order to qualify for the program and must not turn 14 before January 1, 2008.

The participation fee for ages 6, 7, and 8 is $33.00; and for ages 9-13, the fee is $38.00.

Six, seven and eight year olds play on Monday, as do the 9-10 year olds. Ages 11-13 play on Thursday evening and Saturday morning.

CHEERLEADING

Registration is underway for cheerleading at the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department for girls 5-12 years old.

Girls must be fiveyears old by January 1, 2008, and must not turn 13 before January 1, 2008, to be eligible to join the team.

The enrollment fee is $15.00 for new girls, not including the cheerleader uniform which is required. The enrollment fee is not refundable.

Registration dates are November 1 through December 1.

Cheerleaders participate in the homecoming ceremony; attend cheerleading camp at UGA and other places; perform in the WWPRD annual competition; ride in the Christmas and high school homecoming parades; cheer at high school football games; and learn how to "keep my chin up and work hard to make cheerleading my sport."
