City water overflow explained

TO THE EDITOR:

The purpose of this letter is to provide information regarding the overflow condition that has occurred on occasion at the standpipe located on Alexander Drive.

As was discussed at the November council meeting the standpipe is the storage facility at the lowest elevation of any of our elevated storage facilities. The valve located on the standpipe gives the plant operators a signal when it is full. In order to fillall the tanks, the standpipe must be as near full as is possible. On occasion that control valve or the signal malfunctions. When that occurs there is likely to be an overflow of that one storage facility.

The city has contacted the vendor who maintains the signal emitter to make the necessary adjustments to the device. We regret that the overflow occurred and if it reoccurs we urge anyone observing the overflow to contact us at 706-678-3277 or 706-678-1049.
