Thanks to all who helped with Teen Years 101' youth seminars TO THE EDITOR: Many parents, grandparents, teenagers, educators and community members attended the outstanding seminars "TeenAge Years 101" presented by Judge Wade Padgett of Columbia County at W-WCHS November 5-6. We want to thank everyone that attended for their support and desire to invest in the futures of the youth of Wilkes County. We also want to express our appreciation to the members involved in the planning efforts and the local business owners who supported these events. Our thanks go out to principals Steve Echols and Bill Pendrey for their time and efforts from the first meeting to the conclusion of each event. Without their support and involvement, along with Joyce Williams, these events would not have been held at the high school, which we felt would bring the largest attendance. Other members of the steering committee include: Gale Seibert, Carolyn Reynolds, Ashley Barnett, Mandy Jackson, Chris Townsend, Blake Thompson, Dr. Stan Coe, and Steve Albertson. Rev. Gale Seibert even had special stickers designed just for the event! Wayne Madden of M & M OfficeProducts graciously offered to supply and print the flyers which were given out to the middle and high school students and parents as well as the community. The News-Reporter provided announcements and media coverage along with WLOV radio station and Mel Stovall who presented an interview with the information each morning. Jeff Thomas and Beth Jackson helped to arrange the audio and visual equipment for the seminars. Thank you to the teachers who gave classroom incentives and encouraged their students to attend. A gift basket was presented to Judge Padgett with contributions by Skeet Willingham and Rotary Club, Wills Memorial Hospital, Kettle Creek Sporting Goods, WLOV, Bee Southern, Talk of the Town, Washington Chamber of Commerce, The Garden Party and The Gallery la Place. Door prizes for "teen night" were donated by the following: EClips, Poss Ace Hardware, Uptown Citgo, Movie Gallery, McDonalds, Subway, Bee Southern, LaCabana, Fievet Pharmacy, and Pizza Hut. These door prizes created great excitement to this worhwhile event. Washington, you should be proud of the almost 200 teenagers that made the time to attend their seminar to learn about legal issues that face teens today! Thanks to everyone!
