Tiger Basketball gears up; returning seniors ready to open season next Tuesday

The Washington-Wilkes Tiger boys basketball team has been practicing for a few weeks already and even though some of the starters have been involved with football up until now, the 2007-2008 team is beginning to take shape.

Head coach Don Keiser is confindentin his team's chances to put up a good season with some playoff games and outlined some of his returning starters as follows:

l Senior - Lucious Stewart, 6'5" - averaged 22 pts, 12 reb, 5 asst. "His stats speak for him. We look for him to really step up and be a leader this year in all categories on and off the court."

l Senior - Jarekus Bowman, 6'1" - averaged 8.8 pts and 5 rebs. "A great defensive player and a good slasher. He brings a lot of energy to the game."

l Senior - Scottie Long, 6'4" - "He could get every rebound if he wants to. He's strong and a great leaper."

l Senior - Deandre Stewart, 5'10" - "Good all around game. He's a very good three-point shooter, hustler, and spark plug."

Other seniors that will contribute, according to Keiser, include:

l Remardo King, 5'10" - "A good point guard who hustles."

l Ricardo Davis, 6'5" - "Strong around the basket and had a very good summer."

A junior contributor will be Quincy Bradley, 6'3" - "He has really worked on his game and is a real hustler who has become a leaper."

Other players to watch include a sophomore that Keiser says looked good last summer, Akiemos Coleman at 6'4". Also, he reports that there will be as many as six freshmen dressing for varsity play this year and they all also looked good last summer. They are Eric Scott, Desmond Jackson, Teverrius Jones, Deon Jackson, Matson Keiser, and Terry Graves. "This group went undefeated in middle school last year, Keiser said.
