Food distribution part of local Angel Tree project

Rich Seibert (l) and Rev. Gale Seibert prepare food boxes to go with the annual Community Angel Tree gifts distribution. Volunteers will pack the food boxes to share with needy families in Wilkes Co.
Needy local families are going to get something for the dinner table as well as gifts for the children this Christmas.

Rich Seibert, director of God's Marketplace Food Pantry, and Rev. Gale Seibert, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, are making plans for a large food distribution to needy families as part of the Community Angel Tree Project.

From generous donations of concerned citizens, canned food products are purchased from Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta for distribution to the families of the needy children identified by the Angel Tree Project.

Others give their time to help with the food boxes. Over the next week, church youth groups will assist in packing the food boxes to share with the families. The children's ministries of the First United Methodist Church is also providing treat bags to be included in the food boxes. The Iris Garden Club, too, has donated seasonal gift bags filled with appropriate treats for the children that will be included.

In addition to food products, a Christian 2008 calendar is included in the box. The calendar is beautifully illustrated and contains inspirational scripture for each month.

"Angels" are still available for selection from the entry hall of the First United Methodist Church. "Come by and select an angel to bless this Christmas," Chairman Laura Toburen said. "Gifts should be returned to the Church by Monday, December 3."

Angel Tree gifts will be delivered from the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Spring St. on Saturday, December 8, at 9 a.m. Volunteers for delivery are needed. Please consider helping with this endeavor. Call the church for more information, 706-678-7116.
