Chamber annual awards dinner tonight; will honor volunteers, business, citizens There are still a few tickets available for the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner tonight. The annual dinner to honor the Wilkes County citizens, businesses, and volunteers who made a difference in 2007 will be held at The Pope Center tonight, November 29, from 6:30-9 p.m. The program will include Chamber highlights for the year, and the presentation of awards for Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Small Business of the Year, and Big Business of the Year. Big Business of the year nominees include Wills Memorial Hospital, Pliant Corporation, Barnett Southern, Callaway Farms, Anthony Forest Products, Wilkes Telephone, and Farmers & Merchants Bank. Nominated for Small Business of the Year are Washington Farmers Market, Talk of the Town, Kettle Creek Arms, The Sandwich Shop, Georgia Realty Sales, and Hendricks Florist. Volunteer of the Year nominees include Molly Newsome, Sue Davidson, Bobbie Griffin, David Toburen, and Bill Cronic. Nominees for Citizen of the Year include Bradley Barber, Carolyn Reynolds, Debbie Wells, Ashley Barnett, John Horton, Jim Burton, and Mark Waters The featured speaker for the evening is Professor Eddie Smith of Clemson University. He is professor of Communications Studies Abroad for the Clemson Communications Department, and an Adjunct Professor at Anderson University. Entertainment will be by the "Distant Cousins" featuring Dr. Stan Coe and band.
Dinner will be provided by Cornelia Davis and The Home Café.
