New FFA officersretreat to plan
The Washington-Wilkes FFA recently went on its annual OfficerPlanning Retreat. Topics discussed included leadership skills, member recruitment and retention, community service projects, and student activities. This year's FFA officersare (front row, l-r) Ethan Armour, pesident; Taylor Echols, sentinel; Sheena Kopecky, vice president; Gabe Strother, treasurer; (back) Greg Callaway, student advisor; Chris Charping, reporter; and Liz Kitchens, secretary.
The FFA is an intra-curricular student organization that provides its members an opportunity to use valuable knowledge learned in the classroom and apply it to real world agricultural applications such as livestock evaluation, welding, public speaking, and livestock shows. The W-W chapter is involved in 12 contests and a combined 18 livestock shows including beef cattle and market hogs. The Washington-Wilkes FFA also provides its members with other opportunities after school such as archery contests and skeet shoots. All activities are supported by two chicken barbecue fund-raisers including the annual Parent/Member Spring Banquet.
