I hope all readers had a nice safe Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. I realize that there is a lot of sickness and sadness of all kinds all around us in many families, including having to see loved ones go to nursing homes or personal care homes. Often times we findourselves asking, "Why, Lord?" I have always been told that there is a reason for all things, that God works in mysterious ways, and sometimes it takes longer than others to see ways God works in families, even churches, to see how important it is to work together, if everyone really loved each other and truly believed in the Lord as their personal savior. It's hard to serve the Lord with gladness when you feel alone, downhearted, no one else caring, just seemingly to be self-centered, when the Lord is so good to all mankind. May each of us take stock of our own lives and how we might make a difference in our homes, churches, and community, as we enter into the Christmas season, looking forward to celebrating the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. .Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy enjoyed having Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon, their daughter Denise Black and children, Kayla and Brent; Donna Hudson and her daughter Candice and her friend Austin; Henry and Faye McAvoy, Barbara McAvoy Wolters, Kelly Sisson Powell and daughter Mallory, all to visit during the Thanksgiving holidays, bringing much cheer and delicious food. .On Sunday, November 18, Helen Lamar joined her sister, Virginia Hunter, and they enjoyed a family Thanksgiving meal and get-together with Mrs. Hunter's daughter, Marcia, and her husband, Perry Kirkland, and their daughter Kimber who is a senior this year in Lincoln County. They were happy to get to see Perry's mother, Hazel Kirkland, who also lives in the Loco community. .Helen and Virginia were treated again during the Thanksgiving holidays with a meal sent to them from Virginia's oldest son Frankie and his wife Melissa Poss Hunter, when they had all of their three children and grandchildren to spend the day: Tara and her husband, Ron Johnson, their children, Tristen, Tyler, and Brittan; Mandy Keller and daughter Cheyenne; Jody Hunter and daughter Megan. Helen and Virginia's parents were the late Sanders and Mabel Silvey Stevens and grandparents the late John and Lena Poss Stevens who were all members of Phillips Mill Baptist Church. They both feel fortunate along with some of their family to live on the homeplace. Thanksgiving brings back many fond memories of all the family to me. .Amy Dunn of Knoxville, Tenn., spent Thanksgiving weekend with her grandmother, Shirley Mann Dunn, and was thoughtful to call back saying she had a safe trip back home. .Nell Dunn Shedd enjoyed fixing a Thanksgiving meal for all of her children and grandchildren, and having most all of them together on Thanksgiving Day. They included Barbara and her husband, Ken Davis, their daughters, Amber and Nina, and her husband, Adam Posey, and their two sons, Jacob and Alex. Laura West was sick in bed but still enjoyed a meal from mother. Laura's children, Hope West, Tracy Moore, Valerie and her husband, D.J. Wheeler, and their children, Mason and Mattie; Karen and her husband, T.J. Bowen, their children, Roy, Tray and Sarah. Joining them was Nell's sister-in-law, Shirley Mann Dunn. .Not only did Nell Shedd cook a bountiful meal for all her family, she prepared a full Thanksgiving meal for longtime friends and neighbors, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, and all their children. Lee spent Tuesday night through Sunday afternoon; and Mary Jane and Tyler joined them. She called the day before wanting to treat our whole family. It was enjoyed and greatly appreciated by all our family. Oh! We also got to enjoy a congealed salad from Shirley Dunn and a homemade strawberry pie from Willie Frank and Joyce Ann Poss Blackburn and visit. The full meal was delivered by Nina Posey and Tracy Moore. A hug from them was extra icing on the cake.

.Among other recent visitors of Morrison and Priscilla were her first cousin, Melvin Durham of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point; brother, Corrie Maxwell, who has finished his treatment for cancer; Dean McDonald, a Sherrer relative of Union Point; and Steve Oldson of Phillips Mill and Washington. Melvin also stopped by to see Corrie and Myra and brought both some peanuts brought to them from Deer Hunters to Durham. .Remember. God loves you.
