Future business leaders hear from local business owners
Both speakers stressed the uniqueness of the Washington community and the unique opportunities Washington and Wilkes County provide to business owners. They also informed students that, contrary to popular belief, there are numerous business opportunities in Wilkes County, if a person is willing to look for it and give all of his or her energy to it. The meeting was the main event the club held during American Enterprise Week. FBLA members and BCS (business and computer science) students participated in different dress-up days and activities every day of the week of November 12-16. Monday was Successful American Entrepreneur Day. Students dressed up as and researched famous American entrepreneurs. Tuesday was Professional Dress Day. Students had to wear appropriate business attire and participated in a fashion show to demonstrate correct business dress. The students also participated in a handshake activity to demonstrate the appropriate way to shake someone's hand. Wednesday was red, white, and blue day. Students wore as much red, white, and blue as possible. The activity of the day was coming up with business proposals for potential new busi- nesses in Washington. Thursday was Nerd Day. Students dressed up as nerdy as possible and participated in Invention Convention. Invention Convention is an activity where students divide up into teams of four or fiveand are tasked with inventing a new product with a random assortment of objects. Friday was American Character Day. Students dressed up as famous American characters, including Charlie's Angels, Maverick and Goose, and Starsky and Hutch. The activity of the day was a Monopoly tournament. Students competed to see who could earn the most money and property. The overall theme of the week was to stress the importance of American Enterprise.
