Applications available for needy kids to get 'Gifts for Children' from WPD
"The Christmas season is rapidly approaching and the officersof the Washington Police Department are committed to making the 2007 campaign the biggest ever," Police Chief Mike Davis said. The highlight of the campaign each year is the appearance of Santa Claus in person, when he hands out gifts to children who have submitted their preference in advance. Plans this year call for Santa to arrive at the Washington Police Station Friday morning, December 21, and to spend from 9 a.m. to noon distributing gifts to the children on his list. A form for submitting the names of needy children and their first three choices for gifts is supplied at the end of this article. "Everyone who makes a request should meet Santa at the Police Department on December 21 to receive their gifts," Chief Davis added. "All through the morning there will be presentation of gifts. Candy will be given and pictures with Santa will be made from 9 to 12." All requests must be mailed or delivered to the Police Department no later than Monday, December 17. Requests being made by mail should be mailed early enough to ensure delivery no later than December 17. "Regrettably, requests received after December 17 cannot be honored," the Chief explained. "Also, requests coming from outside the city limits of Washington will be considered, but first priority will go to those from inside the city. Requests that are duplicated with other organizations such as the Angel Tree will not be accepted." Donations of toys, gifts, and money will be accepted at any time at the Police Department on the corner of Spring and Liberty streets, across from the City Hall. "Last year's contributions were exceptional," Davis said. "The support received from civic organizations, local merchants, and individuals made them the real heroes for our children. We just hope we do even better this year."
"Once again I am asking for everyone's help in this very important project," Davis concluded. "Our less fortunate children are very special, and in the true spirit of Christmas please give generously to this most worthy cause. Thank you all."
