Beaverdam Baptist Church enjoys annual Christmas fellowship meal Members of Beaverdam Baptist Church had their Christmas Fellowship meal after the worship service Sunday, December 2. Sunday School began at 10:15 with Richard Maxwell as Sunday School director. Richard Byrd taught the class and called on his wife Betty for prayer. Ricky Maxwell reviewed the prayer list and asked John McMillian to lead in the prayer for the sick. Mr. Maxwell led in the singing. Happy Birthday was sung to Lorraine Coumparoules of Texas and visitor Claude Davis of Lincolnton. Lorraine and Elizabeth Cosby from California are visiting their sister, Rosie Maxwell. William Morrison, who plays the piano and organ for Sunday School and preaching service, prayed a beautiful piano selection. Beginning at 11:00 Rev. McMillian preached another good sermon from John 4. Everyone appreciates his straight from the Bible sermons and the way he relates scripture to today's world. At the conclusion of the worship service Richard Byrd presented Christmas gifts to Rev. and Mrs. McMillian and William Morrison. The sanctuary was decorated by Mildred Sisson for the holy season with the pulpit Bible placed on the communion table and opened to Luke 2, marked with a red ribbon and a sprig of holly. Holly, red roses and red ribbon encircled the bases of two red candles which were also on the table. Red candles centered similar arrangements on the piano and organ. A basket of poinsettias brought by William Morrison was placed on the other end of the piano. The Clifton Barrett Fellowship Hall was decorated by Elaine Mathews. A beautiful backdrop for the dessert table was a half circle of Burgundy cloth centered by the matted and framed phrase "Jesus is the reason for the season" with grapes and miniature Christmas balls scattered about on the cloth. The long table where everyone was seated had candles centering similar arrangements on each end of the table. A bountiful and delicious meal brought by members was enjoyed by all with several takeout plates carried to shut-ins. Other visitors welcomed were Mrs. Claude Davis (Pam Winfrey), Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Byrd and Britany, and Mrs. Louise Pless. Hospitality committee members working toward making this a special occasion were Rosie Maxwell, Elaine Mathews, Betty Byrd, and Marie Maxwell. William Morrison as always helps in so many ways with everything that goes on at Beaverdam.
Members join the pastor in inviting everyone to all services at Beaverdam.
