Sardis Baptist Church makes preparations for Christmas season

Rev. Jim Newsome brought an inspiring message "For a Powerless People," from Luke 2:1-7, Sunday morning at Sardis Baptist Church.

The lighting of the Advent candle (hope) was by John and Jennifer Armour and Mason. Monica Gunter led in the singing of hymns by the congregation with Pam Hall at the piano. The children gathered at the altar for the children's message by Rev. Newsome after which they went downstairs to the annex for children's church with Rebekah Echols.

The beautiful flowers were placed in the church in memory of Annie Blanche Vaughn by her family. Everyone was glad to see most of her family in the congregation.

Sunday School will begin Sunday at Sardis at 10 a.m. with worship service at 11 a.m. Family night will be held Sunday evening with a covered dish meal and mission meetings instead of the worship service. Don't forget that the time for this will be moved back to 6 p.m. with Christmas play practice at 5 p.m. this Sunday.

Prayer meeting is every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to come worship at all services at Sardis.

Everyone is reminded by the WMU to bring gift bags and items to fillthem for the shut-ins in the community by family night Sunday, December 9. The G.A.'s will fillthem and they will be delivered when the children and youth go Christmas caroling.

The children and youth will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday morning to work on their float for the Washington- Wilkes Christmas parade which will be in Washington Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Call Pam Hall at 706-274-3515 as to where to meet.

Adults are needed to meet at the Pope Center in Washington at 1:30 Sunday, December 9, to help get the float together for the parade which will be at 3 p.m. If your child would like to be on this float for Sardis Baptist Church, contact Denise Armour at 706-274-3208 or Pam Hall at 706-274-3515, or Monica Gunter at 706-274-3808.
