Annual Wilkes Christmas Parade set for Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Congressman Paul Broun will be the Grand Marshal for Sunday's annual Washington-Wilkes Christmas Parade, and some 30 entries have already signed up, organizer Blake Thomson said.

"There is still room for entries, though," he said. "We'd love to have more floats and groups."

The Parade, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, will line up at the Pope Conference Center on Lexington Avenue and will end at the Washington-Wilkes Elementary School on Robert Toombs Avenue.

"We've got antique tractors and cars, and we're working on getting an antique firetruck, an old ambulance, and a old Georgia State Trooper car," he said. "We'd like to have more participation from churches, civic groups, youth groups, and clubs."

Entries from the Washington Shrine Club and the Thomson Shrine Club, along with Santa on a firetruck, will complete Sunday's parade.

The entrance fee is only $5 per group or organization and all of the proceeds will be given to the Washington Shrine Club. For more information and to enter, contact either Ronnie Huffman at 678-1210 or Blake Thompson at 319-2237.
