Tignall awarded $80,000 grant to improve sidewalks The City of Tignall has been awarded $80,000 to put sidewalks along a heavily traveled street. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that Tignall would get federal Transportation Enhancement funds to put sidewalks on one side of West Wooten Street. The street has heavy truck traffic going to the Hollander Home Fashion factory, Mayor Richard Gammon said, and quite a bit of pedestrian traffic leading to and from Highway 17. The $80,000 grant will be matched in part by local funds, he said.
This year, some 285 communities made requests for funds, and more than $54 million in federal funds were made available.
