There are Christmas parties, extra shopping, decorating and parades all going on everywhere. Let's hope we don't forget where our focus should be at this time of the year. .We all enjoy getting compliments every once in awhile. Well, I got a tremendous one from my granddaughter, Kara Gammon. She was telling me that she was going to be a rock star and a teacher when she grows up. Then she asked, "Mimi, what are you going to be when you grow up?" I thought, isn't that nice that she doesn't think I am grown up yet, and with all this gray hair? .Spending the weekend in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, were Scott and Kathy Ware and Stacey, Donald and Peggy Ware. Peggy told me that they saw the Christmas parade in Gatlinburg and it lasted one hour and 40 minutes. They had the Clydesdale horses and bands from several sates. They enjoyed the parade but thought it would never end. .Margaret Fortson attended the 10th birthday party of her great nephew, Levi Baker, in Hartwell Saturday. He is the son of David and Paula Baker. Margaret then went for a visit with Otis and Martha Ann Fortson in Anderson. She returned home Monday morning just in time for a visit from Norman and Evelyn Fortson of Charlotte, N.C. They all had lunch together Monday. .Christine Burton has a big birthday coming up with a party held for her in the Family Life Center at the Tignall Baptist Church on Saturday, December 15, from 2 until 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and help celebrate Christine's 80th birthday. .Happy birthday also to Ouida Maney who celebrated her birthday December 7. She said her birthday is easy to remember since it is the day of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. .Alex and Kay Tyler attended a piano recital of their grandsons, Jordan and Caleb Tyler, at the Presbyterian Church in Commerce on Sunday afternoon. .Betty Reese visited with Sara Frances Henderson from Thursday through Sunday of last week. Another sister, Barbara Oakley, and her husband, R.C., have been staying in their Beulah home for several days. R.C.'s son, Ronnie Oakley of Winston Salem, N.C., spent Saturday night with R.C. and Barbara in Beulah. .Edna Rhodes, Kathy and Lauren Johnson spent the weekend with April Rhodes in Augusta. AND what do ladies do when they get together? They go shopping, of course. .On Saturday, Leon and Linda Aycock, Otis and Pat Callaway joined Brian and Tonya Callaway at the University of Georgia for the heifer show in which Greg Callaway was a participant. Greg received first place in the Jackpot and first place in the point show. There were some proud grandparents there. .We were sorry to hear of the death of Diane Standard of Pensacola, Fla., daughter of Imogene Standard and the late Arthur Standard. She was the niece of Almond Standard and Christine Burton. I remember when Diane would spend vacations here in Tignall when she was young girl. We extend our sympathy to her family. .Tignall Baptist Church was blessed to have Sydney Pullen of Elberton sing the special song, "What We Need Is a Miracle," Sunday at the worship service. She is the 11-yearold daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Pullen and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pullen. Sydney has a beautiful voice and I know her family is very proud of her. .Spending Saturday night and Sunday with Larry and Pam Pullen were their grandchildren, Sydney, Carson, and Avery Pullen of Elberton. .On Sunday night, the Youth Department of Tignall Baptist Church had its Christmas party at the cabin of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Long. . After Christmas holidays the Awana program at Tignall Baptist Church will change their time of meeting to 5:00-6:00 p.m. each
Sunday night.
