Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church we had a nice church service. There was a real good number of people present. Rev. Dupree's message was "A Song of Mercy -- the First Songs of Christmas." Last Sunday we started the preparation of Christmas -- advent. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas Day and lasts until Christmas Eve. Advent means coming and refers to the coming of Jesus. The first day of advent is the first day in the Christian calendar. The John Shelton family lighted the first (purple) candle -- the royalty of our king. The Victor Linares family lighted the second candle (also purple) and told the meaning of it. .Last Sunday evening the Ebenezer choir along with other church people went caroling. They met early and prepared baskets of fruit, candy, etc. to go to each person that they san to. They enjoyed supper together afterwards. .Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Standard during the weekend were Peyton Standard of Lexington, S.C.; Bobby Ansley Jr., Sara Huff, and Alex Dunaway. Linda and Sara went to Wrens Saturday to pick up Peyton Standard. They stopped in Wrens to help celebrate Eddie Howard's birthday. This was held at the home of Eddie's daughter Tonya. .Sara Huff and Linda Standard went to the funeral of Mrs. Martha Gilpin Murphy Friday. It was held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Miss Martha was a neighbor in that community for a long time before residing in Warrenton, N.H. She was the mother of Laverne Hogan. .I visited my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace, several times last week. .On Friday night, G.B. and I attended a Christmas party at the home of our friends, Barbara and Lamar LeRoy, in Lincoln County. It was a lovely occasion. .Sincere love and sympathy to all who lost loved ones recently. Our prayers are for them. .Sara Huff, Agnes Smith, Sara Nell Myers, Lois Gay and I attended the presentation of The Singing Christmas Tree at Abilene Baptist Church in Martinez Sunday night. It was truly a beautiful service. Rev. Bill Harrell is the pastor. After the service we stopped by the Cracker Barrel for a delicious supper -- a little late, but we had fun. .Sunday, Anna Newsome, daughter of Jamie and Charlene Newsome, celebrated her second birthday. December 6 was the actual birthdate of Anna. They, along with Mrs. Jenelle Newsome, were guests of Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome in Rayle for a birthday dinner on Sunday. It was a happy occasion and Anna seemed to enjoy it very much. Aren't grandchildren wonderful. .Our prayer concerns include all the sick in our area. Most recently in our community is Joann Flood. Get well wishes to all.
