Barbara Ann Simons Combs Funeral services for Barbara Ann Simons Combs, 71, of Union Point were held Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Bethesda Baptist Church, Union Point, with Rev. Jim Olds and Rev. Lem Clark officiating. Interment was in Phillips Mill Baptist Church Cemetery, Washington. She died Wednesday, December 5, at University Hospital, Augusta. Mrs. Combs was a native of Taliaferro County and was the daughter of the late Julius Caesar Simons and Edna Gertrude Lyle Simons. She attended Alexander H. Stephens Institute in Crawfordville and was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and an expert quilter. She was first married to the late Walter Frank Miller. Survivors include her husband, Franklin Lewis Combs of Union Point; two daughters, Hope Bennett and her husband Ken of Buckhead, and Gail Strickland and her husband Steve of Colbert; a step-daughter, Joy Newberry and her husband Larry of Union Point; a son, David Miller and his wife Mary Ann of Plum Branch, S.C.; a stepson, Franklin Combs Jr. of Union Point; a sister, Lucy Dailey of Virginia; two brothers, Ralph Simons of Greensboro, and Tommy Simons of Crawfordville; nine grandchildren, Crystal Carter, Wesley Smith, Georgia Smith, Brandon Bennett, Mitchell Bennett, Jennifer Parks, Misty Strickland, Amber Strickland, and Jayden Newberry; and four great-grandchildren.
