Mary C. Reid WOM group meets Dec. 4 in Jesse Mercer Chapel

The Mary C. Reid Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church met in the Jesse Mercer Chapel Tuesday morning, December 4.

Mrs. Dennis Hopkins welcomed the group, led in the WMU Watchword, read the WMU Mission Statement, and offered a prayer.

Mrs. Gene Pollock led in prayer for those with special needs.

Following the business meeting and plans for the monthly "mission in action," Mrs. Eldon Holes gave the prayer calendar and prayed for the missionaries.

Mrs. Pollock presented the program from "Mosaic" on the status of mission work in the former Soviet Union. After the break-up of the Soviet Union, the 15 countries were open to missionaries for a time. Now some are refusing entry and sending foreigners home while others are persecuting Christians. Ukraine has a seminary and is sending out its own Christian missionaries to other former Soviet nations.

Mrs. Hopkins read a letter to the WMU from Lottie Moon, missionary to China. In the letter from Lottie she noted she has been in China for 11 years. She urged missionaries to come to China. As a result of her letter, funds were raised to send three.

Mrs. Hopkins closed with prayer.

Members present were Mrs. Mary Ann Bentley, Mrs. Lynwood Cofer, Mrs. Joe Harris, Mrs. Eldon Holes, Mrs. Dennis Hopkins, Mrs. James Johnson, Mrs. Gene Pollock, and Mrs. Charles Reese.
