Tigers stumble against Warren, to host Lakeside Fri.

JAREKUS BOWMAN GETS SOME AIR OVER HIS OPPONENT The Tigers will host Lakeside this Friday at the W-WES gym.
Coming off a 4-1 start for the 2007-2008 season, the Washington- Wilkes Tiger boys basketball team hit a stumbling block last weekend when a road trip to Warren County left the players flatin the first quarter.

A hot bunch of Screaming Devils met the Tigers on the court and set about building up a lead from which Washington-Wilkes could never quite recover. At the end of that first period, the score was 6-22 in Warren's favor.

The second and third quarters belonged to the Tigers but not my enough. Then even though Warren was just one point better in the fourth, the Screamers prevailed 65- 57 when the final buzzer sounded. In fact, at the two-minute point, the Tigers had pulled to within two points (54-56) but couldn't hold it together until the end of the game.

"We were only four of 19 from the three-point line," head coach Don Keiser said, "and we were just flat."

Lucious Stewart led the Tigers with 31 points but didn't score at all in the first quarter. Stewart also collected 13 rebounds and was responsible for fiveassists.

Also in double figures for the game was Jarekus Bowman who shot 10 points, had eight rebounds, and six assists. Dede Stewart looked good with six assists also.

Following Tuesday night's rematch on the road against Taliaferro County, the Tigers will return home on Friday to host Lakeside at the W-W Elementary School gymnasium. A full complement of games will be played beginning with girls and boys B-team games starting at 4 p.m.

The following Monday, the Tigers will get the chance to avenge the loss to Warren when the Screaming Devils come to Washington for the two teams' second encounter. The next night, Washington-Wilkes hits the road again to face the Bulldogs at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. After that, the team will remain idle until the Evans Christmas Tournament Dec. 27-29.
