Shoeboxes of Love reach every Wilkes senior
"Shoeboxes of Love" organizer Margie Burke sorts some of the 79 gift shoeboxes assembled by volunteers to be delivered to residents of nursing homes and living centers across the county. Some 43 boxes were delivered to Wilkes Health Care Center, 24 to Harper's Personal Care Home, and 12 to Tignall Assisted Living Center. In addition, Joe Harris and Washington Area Faith in Action assembled 21 gift bags for the residents of Washington Manor. "With the help of many groups and individuals, we have achieved our goal of getting a nice Christmas gift to every senior in a home in Wilkes County, and you should see how happy they were," Burke said. "Thanks to everyone who helped."
