Relay for Life committee begins planning for event set May 2-3

The 2008 Relay for Life planning committee has begun to definedetails for its event to be held in May.
Several weeks ago the planning committee for Relay for Life 2008 met to definedetails of the 2008 Relay to be held May 2-3 at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Center. Special events included a team captain's reception and the annual soup/chili/dessert luncheon.

The reception was planned and hosted by the 2008 steering committee that includes Cathy Lannae, Amy Treadwell, Carol Jackson, and Zella Bennett, as well as American Cancer Society Partner Danielle Caldwell. Seventeen captains attended the reception which was catered and sponsored by Talk of the Town Cafe.

During the Christmas Tour of Homes on December 8, the Relay For Life group held its second annual soup/chili/dessert luncheon at the Washington Woman's Club.

"The Woman's Club graciously donates use of its facility for the event which has been well-received by local folks and tour guests alike," said Cathy Lannae, 2008 chairman. "The group hopes to use this luncheon as an annual kick-off fundraising event," Mrs. Lannae said.

Team and planning committee volunteers came out in great numbers, donating food, working and coordinating the various activities. Mrs. Lannae recognized Carol Jackson for her special efforts and her team of young helpers including Lauren Chafin,Emily Henderson, Morgen Swann, Emily Treadwell, and Katie and Dixie Lee Trimm.

"These young people provided excellent service to our guests as well as orientation to our town," Mrs. Lannae said. "We are very proud of them. They helped make the luncheon a huge success."

The Relay For Life Planning Committee and the American Cancer Society have expressed appreciation to the entire community for their support.
