Riders brave cold, rain for Chris Charping
A little much-needed rain didn't stop some 34 riders from riding in a charity Poker Run Saturday afternoon. The event, based at Tim and Kelly Harris' Harris Custom Cycles, both brought toys to the Washington Police Department's Toys for Children program, and raised nearly $7,000 for Christopher Charping, a local teen who is fighting leukemia. After a chilly ride accompanied by classic and antique cars, the riders also got to tour Kerry McAvoy's garage. George Remsen won the $100 poker pot, and promptly donated the money back to the family, Kelly Harris said. To end the afternoon, auctioneer Leslie Smith warmed up a chilly audience and raised some $1,000. Scores of local civic groups, school groups, businesses, and other organizations joined in sponsoring the event.
