Barbara Roberts presented the program to members and guests at the Kettle Creek Chapter NSDAR luncheon meeting Monday, December 12, at the Washington Woman's Club.

Mrs. Roberts, introduced by Regent Joanne Pollock, led an interactive description of highlights of Christmas celebrations under 18 different presidencies.

Prior to her program Mrs. Pollock welcomed members and visitor, Nancy Inglett of Lincolnton.

During the business meeting the Chapter thanked Carol Faz and Maggie Perry for conducting the DAR grave marking ritual for Carla Thaxton Brown. Mrs. Faz also reported that progress of the Kettle Creek Battleground committee is ongoing and hopes to begin having brochures printed early next year.

In the absence of Kathy Dinneweth, Mrs. Pollock reported the Good Citizen winner was John Lovvorn of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School and he will receive a check for $100. Members voted to give the other two winners from Lincoln County and Oglethorpe County recognition for their hard work.

Mrs. Pollock told members the Georgia Society SAR has asked Lillie Crowe to be in charge of the Battle of Kettle Creek Poster Contest. Students in the Washington-Wilkes Middle School 8th Grade Social Studies classes will participate and be supplied with the poster board. The posters will be displayed at the Mary Willis Library during the first few weeks of February. Judging for the top three posters will be held on Friday, February 9, following the 10 a.m. parade. The Kettle Creek Chapter will supply the monetary award for the top three posters and the SAR will provide certificates.

Mrs. Pollock noted how honored the Kettle Creek Chapter is that member Michelle Butts Smith was named Wilkes County Teacher of the Year.

In closing Mrs. Pollock thanked the hostess committee, Carol Faz, Rita Harwood, and Maggie Perry and noted the beautiful red roses on all the tables were in memory of Carla Thaxton Brown.

Members and guests attending were Patsy Bailey, Mary Ann Bentley, Ginny Broome, Jane Burton, Paula Butts, Linda Chestnut, Carol Faz, Anna Gunter, Rita Harwood, Nancy Inglett, Betty Lee, Edith Lindsey, Oleta McAvoy, Maggie Perry, Ann Pinson, Joanne Pollock, Jane Roberson, Julaine Roberson, Barbara Roberts, Katherine Sanders, Phyllis Scarborough, Charlotte Simmons, Nancy Sisson, Betty Slaton, Marian Thorpe, and Laura Toburen.
