Community effort nets many benefits

The Christmas Tour of Homes and Dinner 2007 sponsored by the Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation was a tremendous success with over 600 visitors in town on December 7 and 8. On behalf of the Historical Foundation I would like to thank all the volunteers who so freely gave of their time to make this happen.

The homeowners who so graciously opened their homes and lofts for a tour or dinner, the docents who helped greet visitors and give house histories, the churches that opened their doors for the weekend, the young people who entertained or served in some way and the museums that decorated and welcomed everyone, all enchanted visitors with our rich history.

Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce that became our headquarters and helped to publicize the weekend as did Old South Marketing and many others as they traveled and took brochures to distribute. The merchants, the restaurants, the Relay for Life team that served lunch, the bed and breakfasts, hotel, motels all welcomed visitors with warm smiles and greetings that helped to create the atmosphere that made them want to return again soon. We continue to hear how everyone loved our beautiful town and cooperative spirit.

A very special thank you goes to Georgia Realty Sales and Petal Pushers Christmas Shop for sponsoring our Christmas booklet for visitors. Everyone had one as a guide and keepsake of the Washington Christmas Tour and Dinner, 2007.

Because of this community effort the Washington Museum will get a much needed facelift and a college bound student pursuing study in an area of history will receive a $1000.00 scholarship. Thank you all for your support in making this happen. It was a great team effort that should come back to us in many ways.

Have a safe and blessed Christmas.
