Frances Wheelis WOM group meets Feb. 4 at Edwards home
Cheryl Edwards was hostess for the meeting of the Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church in her home Monday evening, February 4.
Melanie Wells, facilitator, welcomed members and thanked Mrs. Edwards for opening her home.
After members read the WMU Watchword and had an opening prayer by Mrs. Wells, a short business meeting was held. Several announcements were made and included the WMU Brunch Saturday, February 9, at 10 a.m. in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall. "The Master's Jewels - Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" is the theme for the event. Also announced was the Week of Prayer for North American Missions March 2-9. A special soup and sandwich meal and missions fair will be held on March 2.
Mission actions plans included finalizing details for the Valentine Party on February 14 at Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes. Other offerings for special needs were made.
Jackie Gillispie, presented by Susan Pope, gave a most interesting and inspiring program telling about a mission trip to Mexico that she made with other members of her church while living in Titusville, Fla. She was chosen as a leader of one of the women's Bible study groups and participated in visiting and evangelizing in the afternoon. As she related events of the trip, Mrs. Gillispie focused on Jesus being the Rock upon which all Christians stand. She closed her program in prayer.
Teresa Bishop offered the missionary prayer calendar focusing on Phillipians 1:9-10 and mission work in West Africa. After the missionaries with birthdays on February 4 were noted and those with special needs in the community named, Kay Nelms closed in prayer.
Mrs. Edwards served delicious refreshments during a time of fellowship.
Joining Mrs. Edwards were Jackie Gillispie, Teresa Bishop, Rosemary Hopkins, Melanie Wells, Kay Nelms, Susan Pope, Julia Palmer, Louise McClearen, Gail Hunter Sue Lance, Gail Stewart, Nancy Madden and Elizabeth Pope.
