Washington will pay tribute to a favored native son at 'Ernie Harwell Day' Friday
      Halls of fame, more often than not, are recognized by who they leave out - omissions becoming more topical than admissions. Let it be duly noted, too, that more sinners than saints are enshrined. An exception comes this year with the State of Georgia Hall of Fame. Standby.

Tigers win sub-region; players, coach honored
      The Washington-Wilkes Tigers made it six in a row and secured first place in sub-region 8A-AA when they smacked North Oconee back into second place with a solid 60-50 win last Friday night. The win put W-W at 8-2 in the sub-region (18-7 overall) having avenged their previous losses by beating Morgan and North Oconee in their second meetings.

Wrestlers headed for Area tourney this weekend
      In W-W Tiger wrestling action during the past week, the team came out on top of a tri-meet on Tuesday, and then had three wrestlers to finish in the top threeat the Patriot Classic in Oglethorpe County. Seniors were recognized at "Senior Night" on February 8.

Wylies sign to play football
     Tiger senior DanWylie (above) is pictured with his mother, Kimberly Dillard, and coaches Chris Mason and Russell Morgan as he signs an athletic scholarship to play football at GMC in Milledgeville. Almost simultaneously, his brother Markeith (at left), who has just completed his second year at GMC, signed to play for the Georgia Southern Eagles.

W-W Little League registration will continue through March 4
      Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Little League 2008 program begins today, February 7, and runs through Saturday, March 4. The program is for boys and girls baseball and also includes girls softball. The boys and girls baseball ages are 5 through 15 years old and girls softball is 9 through 16 years old.

Registration for spring soccer at W-WPRD to begin
      Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department Spring Soccer program has begun and will run through the end of this month with a final deadline of February 29. No late sign-ups will be accepted. The registration fee is $35.00. Games will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Saturdays.
