FBLA members complete project teaching them 'Life is a Highway'

The Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) has worked throughout the school year to complete the Georgia FBLA State project entitled "Life is a Highway." The project included completion of activities in the areas of careers, lifestyle activities, financial activities, educational activities, and publicity. The W-WCHS FBLA chapter currently has 87 members.

During monthly FBLA meetings and in business courses, FBLA members have completed activities from the "Life is a Highway" project.

In Computer Applications, business students and FBLA members have typed their long-term career and personal goals, prepared résumés for themselves at age 35, used Microsoft Excel to determine car payments on several different cars at different interest rates, created and presented career PowerPoint shows to their classmates, created personal budgets, and participated in American Enterprise Week activities.

In Entrepreneurship and Business Document Processing classes, business students and FBLA members typed their long-term career and personal goals, prepared career maps showing courses they need to take in high school and after high school to prepare for their careers, prepared résumés for themselves at age 35, participated in various American Enterprise Week activi- ties, and presented Career Projects to their business classes.

During FBLA meetings, various speakers have involved the FBLA members in discussions about interview techniques, savings, investments, having adequate business plans, and how to have a successful business.

National FBLA week February 10-16 and many of these activities will continue through FBLA Week.
